St. Petersburg Art Galleries

Home to a burgeoning arts scene, the art galleries in St. Petersburg have much to offer and are concentrated around the city centre and Vasilevskii Island. The Art City Gallery is a definite highlight in this part of St. Petersburg and home to a range of paintings created by local Russian artists, together with various souvenirs and craftworks.

Located in central St. Petersburg, the Gosudarstvennyi Russkii Muzei (State Russian Museum) on the Inzhenernaia Ulitsa contains the biggest collection of Russian paintings in existence. Founded at the very end of the 19th century, the State Museum is home to more than 400,000 pieces, which covers a period of just over 1,000 years. However, it is the Hermitage Museum within the Winter Palace that most people wish to see and long crowds can often form at busy times.


Nearby, the St. Petersburg Association of Free Artists Gallery lies on Nevskii Prospekt and promotes many local emerging artists, also being home to a large permanent collection and featuring free admission. The Manezh (Central Exhibition Hall) at St. Isaac's Square and the Masters Guild Gallery in the heart of St. Petersburg's Nevskii Prospect are also worth looking out for.
